Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 27, 2026
Mianote is a private journal. Our model is simple: your writing belongs to you, it is end-to-end encrypted on your device, and we built the app so that we cannot read it.
The short version. Your journal entries are end-to-end encrypted and stay on your device. We have no key and no ability to read them. We do not use AI, we do not show ads, we do not run third-party trackers, and we never sell your data.
1. Overview
This policy explains what information Mianote ("we", "us") handles when you use the Mianote app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and how we protect it. Mianote is made by MGem Labs. By using Mianote you agree to this policy.
2. What we collect
We designed Mianote to collect as little as possible:
- Your journal content (entries, photos, video, audio, sketches, tags, places, and moods): created and stored on your device, and end-to-end encrypted. We cannot read it.
- Purchase information needed to manage your subscription or Lifetime purchase (handled by Apple and our subscription provider, see below). We do not receive your full payment details.
- Basic diagnostic information you choose to share if you contact support, or that Apple provides in aggregate if you opt in to share app analytics with developers.
- Your account: the email address that Sign in with Apple or Google provides when you sign in. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we only ever see the relay address.
- A referral code, if a creator sent you one and you entered it during setup. We record which code you used, so we can credit that creator and offer you the matching discount.
Signing in is required. The backup and recovery Mianote promises need an account for your encrypted Vault to belong to, so the app asks you to sign in when you first open it. There is no profile to fill in, and nothing you write is readable by us either way.
3. Your entries are yours
Everything you write is stored locally on your device and protected with end-to-end encryption. If you enable encrypted sync across your devices, your content is transmitted and stored in encrypted form that we cannot decrypt. Your device can also be locked with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode so that only you can open the app.
You can export your entire journal at any time, free, as PDF, plain text, JSON, or original media. Your data is never trapped.
4. Location and weather
If you add a place to an entry or let Mianote attach weather, the app uses your device location for that purpose. Coordinates may be sent to Apple WeatherKit, and as a fallback to Open-Meteo, only to retrieve weather for that location. Location is used to enrich your entries and is stored with them in encrypted form. You can decline location access in iOS settings; place and automatic weather will simply be unavailable.
5. Subscriptions and purchases
Mianote offers a free trial, then a subscription or a one-time Lifetime purchase. Billing is handled by Apple through the App Store. We use RevenueCat to manage and verify entitlements. These providers process the purchase data necessary to deliver and restore your purchase. We do not receive your credit card number.
If you arrived through a creator's referral code, we keep a record that your account used that code, and whether the account holds an active purchase, so that we can pay the creator their share. That record is a code and a name, never anything you have written.
6. Third parties we rely on
- Apple: the App Store (purchases, optional developer analytics) and WeatherKit (weather for entry locations). Apple's privacy policy applies to those services.
- RevenueCat: subscription and purchase management.
- Supabase: the hosting behind your account and encrypted sync. It holds your journal only as ciphertext, with no key it can use to read it.
- Open-Meteo: a weather fallback that receives an entry's coordinates to return a forecast.
We do not integrate advertising networks or third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
7. No AI, no ads
Mianote does not use artificial intelligence. We do not analyze, train on, or feed your entries to any AI system, ours or anyone else's. We do not show advertising and we do not sell, rent, or share your personal information for marketing.
8. Data retention and deletion
Your content stays on your device until you delete it. Deleting an entry, or deleting the app, removes the corresponding local data. If encrypted sync is enabled, deleting your data removes the encrypted copies from sync. Purchase records held by Apple and RevenueCat are retained per their policies and as required for tax and accounting.
Deleting your account from inside the app removes your account, your encrypted copies, and any referral record attached to it. We do not keep a copy of the referral behind after the account is gone.
9. Your rights and choices
You can export or delete your data at any time from within the app. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information, or to object to certain processing. Because your entries are encrypted and on your device, you are already in direct control of them. For anything else, contact us and we will help.
10. Children
Mianote is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your region), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
11. Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will revise the date above and, for significant changes, provide a clearer notice. Continued use of Mianote after an update means you accept the revised policy.
